Sunflowers

Helianthus annuus 'Mammoth Russian'

It's feeling like the waning days of summer here in Connecticut. Just the other day I took this photo out in a baking campus garden; today it's windy, cool and drizzling. Well, we can use the rain, and it's supposed to be back to heat and humidity by the weekend.

I cannot wait until the first days of some fall air!!! Gorgeous sunflowers! I am wondering how large the heads are!

They're maybe about a foot across, not counting petals. So they're not all that mammoth, though the plants are close to 10 feet tall.
