The stone Cairns were used as beacons for navigation purposes ensuring they wouldn't get lost, think of it as an ancient form of GPS. The two Stone Cairns in the shape of Viking ships could be burial sites, has anyone done any ground penetrating radar over the two sites? I would love to find out if these are Ancient Viking burial sites but I know if they discover they are ancient Viking burial sites that the evidence will be taken away, Never to be seen again because there are powerful institutions with One of them being the Smithsonian, they don't want the real history of North America to be revealed, they've been working tirelessly to keep any evidence from coming out. You clearly know nothing about thompson ct and its stone structures. There was barely any forest in the area when the colonist arrived. Look at old pictures from the 1800s. There is 80% more forest now then there was then that is why everything is being destroyed now which in my opinion is very sad. The colonist clearly took over what they built and modified some things to benefit there needs.you really think that during a time when your struggling to survive your going to have the time to build thousands of rock piles and stone walls? The native americans managed the land they did not need to manage their stone structures they built them completely for ceremonial and religious reasons. Plus if you look at the soil composition you don't need to dig to far down too see its mostly made up of sand that was deposited from the last ice age. You think a heavy forest is going to grow out of sand? Use a compass and learn about astrology. Study how the water flows. Study where it joins and meets. Study rock structures and fault lines. spend five years in those woods and look at everything the way a real archeologist would before you come up with stupid assumptions. Because of people like you your making other people confused and dumb about the real history and these ancient sites are being destroyed instead of preserved and cherished.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5109390741389284924.post-35394962032011515902018-12-29T01:36:04.287-05:002018-12-29T01:36:04.287-05:00Matt, I’m growing a nice crop of 2-3 year old bruy...Matt, I’m growing a nice crop of 2-3 year old bruynsii but I’ve killed them before. Sites like these cannot be found anywhere in Europe but all the things you describe - such as niches at the base of towers and boat shaped low mounds, are common in New England. Also, it is wrong to assume all Native Americans stopped existing more than 150 years ago - so dating and trying to separate "white" colonials from Native colonials does not work.pwaxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16647940752050937588noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5109390741389284924.post-92186731262260551962018-08-08T14:13:16.443-04:002018-08-08T14:13:16.443-04:00"Another explanation that is maybe not as rom..."Another explanation that is maybe not as romantic, but at least as viable, is that the site is a sort of rustic art installation constructed by bored Yankee farmers, less than 200 years ago. Farming in New England is a difficult business and early efforts at cultivating fields or improving pastures involved a lot of moving rocks out of the way. In general, fieldstone was used to make walls, or sometimes thrown into heaps in out of the way spots or at property lines. But, there wouldn't be anything stopping a farmer with a more creative disposition from sequestering his extra rocks in neat little cairns and towers around his property."<br /><br /> LOL.
